I watched as the blue, white, pink and purple fireworks burst in the sky like a Picasso painting, using the black sky as a perfect canvas. The loud booms echoing overhead vibrated through my heart. This was the perfect ending to my son’s graduation open house. He’d spent an extra year in high school to earn his diploma instead of taking the easy route – a GED – the year before. His hard work had paid off and now was the time to celebrate. My pride and happiness burst forth with more vigor than the fireworks.
