I watch the rain hit the window, gently sliding down the glass. I remember how my tears flowed a similar path. The rain and gloom engulf my heart, smothering what little light I have left in my life. This time of year is hard enough without the added burden of another’s family’s grief. The depression could almost swallow me up. So, I look away, trying to push memories the out of my mind. I pretend I don’t hear the pitter-patter beating against the windowpane. I force myself to focus on my job, trying to ignore the ache in my heart. Perhaps getting justice for this family will help my wounds heal.
